Pilot bit

Pilot bits

Applications:

Abrasive, medium-hard formations, including hard copper ores, hard sandstones, and medium-hard iron-ore formations; schists, gneiss, and other metamorphic formations; and granites and other medium-hard igneous formations.

Moderate spacing of the conical-shaped, sintered tungsten carbide inserts provides maximum penetration and bit life.

Bit weight and RPM: 3,000 to 6,000 lb per inch of diameter; 50 to 90 rpm.

Applications:

Hardest, most abrasive formations, like hard iron ores and the hardest igneous formations.

Closely spaced tungsten carbide inserts extend the life of the BP 80 series by maximum coverage of the cutting structure. Special abrasion-resistant tungsten carbide inserts also protect the gauge-bevel face, nose, and shirttail. Large, high-capacity bearings are used for longer service life under heavy loads.

Bit weight and RPM: 5,000 to 8,000 lb per inch of diameter; 40 to 80 rpm.
